The story is set in a village set up in north India where Lajo, an orphan street child grows up to be a girl facing all kind of assaults from her male partners and finally, as a maid servant, lands up in the house of Mirza, a single simpleton, small shopkeeper. Lajo starts enjoying her new life in a house with a motherly neighbour, Dadi and Mirza's life changed as well with Lajo.
Lajo is never shy of her desires and needs and does not behave like a victim ever. Naturally, Lajo and Mirza become close soon. But going against Lajo's wishes Mirza marries her, but soon Mirza gets the tastet of Lajos unbound spirit. Failing to fit Lajo in the narrow space of marriage, Mirza divorces her. Unperturbed Lajo goes back to dadi and starts mingling with her pals like sabjiwala, doodhwala, matkawala, churiwala in the market place.
But neither of the two was happy. Mirza was missing the Gharwali and Lajo was missing the Ghar. Hence, Lajo decides to come back as the maid servant for Mirza. Their love story starts now.
Led by Fakir the chorus of the market place provides the musical treat as the story mover and showcase the magic of Hindustani Ganga Yamuna ethos.
