About Play : Draupadi has always been a celebrated character of the epic of Mahabharata. Many myths, conventions and perceptions have been associated with her in various versions of her life story. This Play takes excerpts from the story of Draupadi as known to everybody and adds imaginative sequences that bring out the real essence of association between Draupadi and today's women. This juxtaposition makes this work fit to be called an imaginative retelling of certain chapters from Draupadi's life.
This play takes place in an Indian village in the late 1960s. A bunch of playful females of a large family of Haryanvi rural performers decide to play Draupadi in the absence of the males of the family. In the process, they discover how their lives are a close reflection of Draupadi's life. This intense story unfolds seamlessly, making the production a literary marvel presented in a visually-appealing manner. Like all other productions of the society, this play also features folk music.

The Films and Theatre Society is a five years old registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 on All India Basis. The main objective of the society is the production and promotion of theatrical plays, short (a nd other) films and other performing arts such as dance and music in India, with a special focus and concentration on Indian arts. Other objectives of the society inter-alia include furtherance of literature, creative arts related to theatre and films and other art forms, and making available to its members resources connected thereto. The Films & Theatre Society (FTS) is arguably one of the very few theatre and arts societies in Delhi who have members from diversified professions and educational backgrounds. It is here in FTS, that one sees professors and students of same colleges sharing the stage with each other. We are a team of around 60 young people working in various industries, in different capacities or people who are students of various streams and this brings you the table of variety of thoughts, ideas and expressions. But what is common to all of them is the passion for theatre and arts and a creative appetite. FTS has done over fifty stage shows of eight full length theatre productions in nine different cities of India through over 150 actors trained by it. It has successfully organized and managed five large scale festivals since July 2011 in partnership with many corporate, government, media and social organizations. Encouraged by the acceptance and acknowledgement from the varied audience and eminent theatre personalities, FTS is determined to take its productions to various parts of India and abroad to showcase their art. Another peculiar feature about the society is that in spite of being a weekend arts group it has been able to come up with productions which match up to the standards of any other professional group working in related field. This is the reason various companies, corporate houses and other institutional bodies have shown interest and extended their support to the activities and production of the society. FTS directs all its efforts towards promotion of the dying arts of theatre, folk music and dance among its members and others through constant workshops, exercises and sessions which has helped in building a strong performing culture among members of the society.
