About Play : Sons Of Babur is the first ever play on the era and aura of the Mughols. It has been dubbed as the 'Theatrical equivalent of Mughal-e Azam' - a 'highly entertaining' account of the 'World' of Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb laid open to the audience from far off Rangoon by the last and deposed Mughol Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
The play is recreates Babur's unexpected arrival in India and his unusual return to God; Humayun's awkward exit from India and then from this world too; Akbar's 'intolerance' (to religious bigotry); Jahangir's love for wine, women and Kashmir; Shah Jahan's monumental love for his beloved wife; Aurangzeb's love for the best of the both 'worlds' and Bahadur Shah Zafar's desire to be remembered not as the 'Last Emperor of India', but the 'First Emperor of Democratic India'.
Succinctly speaking, while watching this play, one cannot but in turn be enamored by the benevolence of the Mughols, feel disgust at their ambition, become fearful of their cruelty and also admire their ability to unite diverse populations into an entity called 'Hindustan'.
The play is written by noted politician-writer and the former External Affairs Minister of India, Salman Khurshid. It is directed by Tom Alter.
It features some of the prominent actors of the country; including Harish Chhabra as Jahangir, Vishnu Sharmaas Aurangzeb, Niti Phool as Jodha Bai, M Sayeed Alam as Babur; and inimitable Tom Alter as Bahadur Shah 'Zafar', who in the past has portrayed, with finesse and flair, 'Bahadur Shah Zafar The Emperor' in 'Lal Qile Ka Aakhri Mushaera', Maulana Azad in 'Maulana Azad', Ghalib in 'Ghalib'.
Last but not the least, the play is produced by Pierrot's Troupe - the theater company credited with giving many new, original and entertaining productions to Hindi, Urdu and English Theatre: Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Sons of Babur, Ghalib Ke Khat, Shah Jahan-O-Mumtaz, Pakistan Aur Alzheimer's, To Gandhi Ji With Spelling Mistakes, Raja Nahar Singh etc.
