About Play : Ghalib Ke Khat is Pierrot's Troupe's relatively new production. With this, the troupe becomes a proud and distinctive producer of three plays on Mirza Ghalib. The other two being the much celebrated Ghalib and the country's longest running comedy, Ghalib in New Delhi.
Ghalib Ke Khat is a dramatic version of the personal letters that the great Ghalib wrote to his friends, disciples, relatives and even government authorities. In such, the play is the first ever 'dramatic' presentation of his letters.
But, what is that ''so unique and incisive'' about this production, which the Pierrot's plays are always characterized for?
The play has Mirza Ghalib's friends, disciples, his wife (Umrao Begum) and even his maid (Wafadar) reading, reviewing, and even criticizing, his letters. In the process, the audience is introduced not only to Ghalib and his lifestyle, but also to his near and dear ones. Among them is Munshi Har Gopal Taftah - a great yet long-forgotten poet of Persian origin(played by Tom Alter).
Briefly speaking, the play presents and entertaining account of the life, life style and the literary brilliance of Mirza Ghalib, his equally learned wife and his near and dear ones.
It features some of the prominent actors of the country including Tom Alter, Jaskiran Chopra, who excels in portraying the first ever extensive portrayal of Mirza Ghalibs wife, Anju Chhabra as Mirza Ghalibs witty and vivacious maid and Dr M Sayeed Alam in multiple roles.
The play has been written and directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam, reputed for his penchant for humorous, historical and historic plays. Last but not the least, the play is produced by Pierrots Troupe - the theater company credited with giving many new, original, entertaining and ever running productions to Hindi, Urdu and English Theatre in India. Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, CutCutCut, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Sons of Babur, 1947, Ghalib Ke Khat, Shah Jahan O- Mumtaz, Pakistan Aur Alzheimers, To Gandhi Ji With Spelling Mistakes, Tumko Chahoon, Raja Nahar Singh etc.
